One of the reasons Billionaires stay stinkingly rich asides their knack for executing financially rewarding deals is their giving attitude. Any Billionaire that isn’t generous will end up in penury.
Early this year, fourteen billionaires announced they have signed the Giving Pledge, formally joining the 154 other billionaires who have promised to give away at least half of their vast wealth to philanthropic causes.
Started in 2010 by Bill and Melinda Gates, worth $88.5 billion, and Warren Buffett, worth $74.2 billion, the Giving Pledge is a commitment by wealthy individuals and families to give away more than half of their wealth to causes including including poverty alleviation, refugee aid, disaster relief, global health, education, women and girls’ empowerment, medical research, arts and culture, criminal justice reform and environmental sustainability.
Signatories of the Giving Pledge must be billionaires, if not for the money they are giving away. The goal of making a public pledge is to encourage others to consider philanthropy, too, even if they aren’t billionaires.
Giving is life. Giving is nature. We take in oxygen and give out carbon dioxide. Any man that decides to take in oxygen and refuse to give out carbon dioxide is on the road to meeting his Maker.
No matter how delicious a meal is for instance, if you’re not ready to give out your poo (waste), you’re likely to die with it.
No matter how small you have, there is always something to give. Those clothes you haven’t worn in ages, give them out. Give your time and service. Give your patience and love. Give a little money you have to that boy/girl/elderly man/woman/widow that has next to nothing to feed on.
Don’t be a “give me give me” human being. Look for opportunities to be a “take this take that” human being.
The Receiver is blessed only by what he receives whereas the Giver is blessed by God, blessed by nature, blessed by ‘karma’.
Remember, God loves a cheerful giver (1 Corinthians 9:7) for it is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35).
Lastly and powerfully in Danny Thomas’ words, “There are two kinds of people in the World: the givers and the takers. The takers sometimes eat better, but the givers always sleep better”.
