I was minding my business when this beautiful and presentable lady approached my office table and asked if I was interested in buying body sprays and perfumes.
Before I could say Jack Robinson, she had occupied my table with different assorted body sprays and perfumes.
“This body spray is very good, lasts long and most of my customers love it”, she continued pointing to a body spray I was admiring.
Her use of English, presentation and interpersonal skills were top notch and I ended buying a body spray and a perfume from her.
She left her detials and asked me to call her when I exhausted the lot.
Curiosity they say killed the cat but I’m sure my next point of action won’t kill me. I used her number to search for her Facebook account (I’m sure some people didn’t know you could do that…lol. YES YOU CAN!!!)
What I discovered ‘wowed’ me.
This young and vibrant looking perfume seller recently passed out from Youth service.
Instead of sitting at home, lazying about and applying for jobs, she took the initiative and started something with what she had with the believe that one day she will have a story to tell.
What’s going to be your story?
The Bible said in Ecclesiastes 9: 10 “Whatever thy hand findeth to do, do it well…..”
Stop looking down on yourself. If you don’t like your situation, keep yourself busy till the situation changes. Don’t be lazy about it. Life is happening, ‘happen along’.
This young lady wouldn’t have been let into the office if she came with the sole aim of dropping her CV but was allowed in because she had something to sell.
See how her small mobile business opened the door for her into the office complex?
Let’s now imagine she had the resourcefulness and foresight as to go about her little business with her CV. As she sells a perfume to a client, she drops her CV with him/her with a smile saying “if you hear of any vacancy in your company or anywhere else, please give me a call”.
Google defines the word initiative as “the power or opportunity to act or take charge before others do”. Oxford dictionary defines it as simply “a fresh approach to something”.
You have been applying for jobs and believing. That’s good. But in Eistein’s words ‘stupidity is doing the same thing and expecting different results’.
Do something different dammit.
Proverbs 22:29 says “Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve kings rather than working for ordinary people”.
Emphasis on ‘Skilled in their work’. Even if you can’t go out and sell stuff. Learn a skill. Learn a trade. Improve yourself. Serve more passionately in church. Teach kids in the neighborhood a subject you are good at. Study a course online.
Sharpen your knife (mind) so when the wood (job) is available, you can cut it swiftly (successfully).
Humorously, the perfume and body spray I got from her are named “DRIVE”.
What’s your DRIVE? (pun intended)
Get up. Get out. Get working.
