This kind of love works harder on the emotions than the companionship love. This is the kind of love that keeps the heart beating overtime. The Greeks called it “eros” which means a sensual and physical form of love that often produces ardent physical involvement before and after marriage. Eros kind of love heightens our senses and stimulates our bodies and minds.
I remember having this conversation with a friend who told me that she was still in love with her ex. I was like so if you are still in love with him so why don’t you both patch things up. She said they had tried making things up but they couldn’t but she always went back to him because he made love to her like no other man has ever done. This is passionate love (eros) at work . The kind of love that hungers for the other person to stimulate and satisfy our sexual urges.
This kind of love is strong enough to get you into a relationship and most cases into marriage but sexual intimacy can never take you far in marriage. The same way a building requires a strong foundation, sex and passion is not a strong enough foundation to keep a marriage afloat. What happens the day when he can no longer last more than 5 minutes in bed, what happens when her assets start shrinking and are filled with stretch marks, what happens when he can no longer stay erect, what happens when he doesn’t please you like he used to, what happens when he has to make use of drugs to stay active in bed.
Companionship and passionate kinds of love are strong enough but they come with conditions. Only one is unconditional and that is the next love.
