Nigeria is Blessed; Bomb Blast or Not

God bless Nigeria

I had barely woken up this morning after a night slept without light when the news of a fresh bomb blast hit me like a hot slap on the face. I staggered out of bed, took my phone and did my research and it dawned on me that this reported bomb blast occurred in my own country Nigeria. I was still in a transfix when a news report on one of the radio stations came through with more in-depth information on the bomb blast. It was said to have occurred around 6:45am this morning (14th April 2014) under Nyanya bridge at Nyanya Elrufair Park in Abuja, Nigeria. According to eye witness accounts, a bus laden with explosives went off this morning where people gathered to take buses to their various destinations. Unconfirmed reports have it that over 200 people have either been confirmed dead or injured. May the souls of the departed rest in peace.

No one has claimed responsibility for this abominable act but we can safely assume that Boko Haram is responsible. Boko Haram which means “Western education is sinful” in Hausa is an Islamic jihadist and takfiri militant and terrorist organization based in the northeast of Nigeria. They have been a menace to the people of Nigeria and the progress of this nation with their insensitive killing of people including children and women. Going by my conversation with people this morning, the posts filled with bloodied pictures of human part remains by bloggers, the fear in the voice of people, the callous remarks made by people via their display pictures and display messages on BBM, its safe to assume that Boko Haram is accomplishing their mission in Nigeria.

Mind you, their mission is not just to kill scores of people including innocent defenseless children, their mission is not just to kill Christians and Muslims, their mission is not to kill security personnels, their mission is not to stop western education as they claim, their mission is not to get President Goodluck Jonathan out of office, their mission is not to gain significance or is it to receive amnesty from the Federal Government.

Boko Haram’s clear mission is to instill fear and apprehension amongst Nigerians, to spread hate for the Government, to make the country seem ungovernable, to make this country look weak, to make people loose hope in this country, to stop western investment in the country. Their mission is to make Nigerians live in fear, to make us loose faith in humanity, to loose hope in God and loose sight of peace. Their mission is to cause Christians to see Muslims as their enemies thereby instigating a religious war. Their mission is to make us ignore the positives in this great nation and focus on the negatives. Their mission is to make us seek so called greener pastures abroad. Their mission is for us to give up on this country.

I task you to make sure they fail. Nigeria is troubled but Nigeria is blessed. We are not where we want to be but we are far from where we were during the civil war era. I task you to focus on what’s good in Nigeria and ignore what’s bad in Nigeria.

Nigeria works. I have lived in the United Kingdom and I can tell you that although we are lagging behind in terms of infrastructure, laws, governance and social amenities. We make up for it with the spirit of the people. They cannot take what we take, they cannot go through what we go through, they cannot stay under this hot sun and survive, they cannot go through the hell that police put us through here, the stress that okada men put us through, the stress jumping danfo and molue puts us through. We have something they can never have–» The Spirit. Don’t let Boko Haram take that Spirit away from us.

People are getting rich in this country, people are buying cars in this country, people are getting married in this country, opportunities of wealth abound in this country. Remember, you don’t need to go abroad to proper for “grace is not from abroad from above”. Stop spoiling the name of this great country. We survived the Civil War, we survived Colonisation, we survived joblessesness, we survived with no light, we will survive these testing times.

The President is not Nigeria, Boko Haram is not Nigeria, the Governors are not Nigeria.
I am Nigeria. You are Nigeria. I believe in Nigeria! I hope you do too.

Brilliantly spoken Kurtis. I have always wondered what their mission was and I knew it has passed the reason of ‘education is evil’… they are simply agents of the devil, who are trying to destroy Nigeria because of the rich potentials it carries. We shouldn’t give up on our country cause it is worth fighting for. we fight in prayers, in togetherness and in hope. God bless Nigeria.

    1. There is NO PLACE LIKE HOME my dear. Boko Haram cannot bomb us out of our country, with prayer and security consciousness, we will fish them out and send them away from the face of the earth (bloody civilians). God bless you dear. Amen
